“Elbow Capitals” – an Original Crusader Creation

The Crusaders left a unique architectural impression on Jerusalem, in the form of column capitals known as “elbow capitals” because of their shape. The source of this capital was apparently Jerusalem, from which it spread elsewhere in the country. This style of capital is found in the Crusader Church of St. Mary in the present-day Jewish Quarter.
