The Nea Vaults

The Maria Nea Church was the largest Byzantine church in the city, constructed during the reign of the Byzantine Emperor Justinian.  In the 1970’s Prof. Nahman Avigad uncovered an impressive series of massive vaults, that served as reservoirs.
