The Foundation Stone on Mount Moriah: the Foundation of the World

In the picture: The “foundation stone” is actually the bedrock of Mount Moriah. According to Jewish tradition, this is the stone on which the world was founded, hence its name, as well as the place of the binding of Isaac. The foundation stone is usually thought to have been part of the Dvir, or Holy of Holies, in the Temple of Solomon. Today it is inside the Muslim edifice of the Dome of the Rock on the Temple Mount.
