Scientific Revolution

Scientific archaeological research on ancient Jerusalem began in 1867 in the City of David with the arrival of the British Captain Charles Warren. Warren was the man who discovered the water shaft system in the City of David that now bears his name. His findings, together with those of scholars who came after him, led to a conceptual revolution with the realization that ancient Jerusalem started out on a small hill south of the Temple Mount, and not in the Old City of today.
