Heaps of Destruction at the Foot of the Temple Mount

In the picture: Excavations conducted by Prof. Benjamin Mazar and subsequently by Prof. Ronny Reich and Ya‘akov Bilig, revealed huge heaps of stones from the Western Wall, which had been torn down by the Romans in 70 CE. The heaps of stones were found covering the pilgrims’ street from the end of the Second Temple period.
