An Arab Amulet from the Abbasid Period

An amulet inscribed in Arabic from the Abbasid period was discovered in the early 2000s during excavations in the Givati Parking Lot headed by Prof. Yuval Gadot and Dr. Yitftah Shalev. The inscription reads: “Karim trusts in Allah. Lord of the worlds is Allah.”

The size and shape of this object and the fact that at least part of the text on it has parallels in Islamic culture of the period, show that it was apparently used as an amulet for protection and blessing.
